Snowflake '99 Training

An essential element of our Snowflake is the annual training. Four hours of our March Institute Day is dedicated as Snowflake training with all leaders attending. We have 30 small groups and each group has a leadership team consisting an adult, two high school and one junior high leader.

The success of our program is largely due to the large numbers of high school and college leaders. Many high school and even college studentswere back this year for six or more times. The average experience of our leaders is five years!

Most adult leaders also return to help year after year. Our district has had the foresight to provide a stipend to faculty who participate.

Highlights of Training Day

	Snowflake training began as old friends met and got reaquainted.	We started the program with a large group session to discuss goals and responsibilities.

	Snowflake Director Olson described a symbol of our program, the "warm fuzzy."	80 high school and college students attended, along with 30 junior high students and 40 adults.

	We also discuss the importance of being a drug free, positive role model.	Motivational Media prepared the show, Be Excellent, which was also shown at Snowflake.

	We then watched the show to know how to best prepare participants on Snowflake day.	Next snowcommanders Hills and Higgins explained the many details of the day.

	The food we provided throughout the morning was appreciated.	The final stage of training involved each leader team meeting to plan for Snowflake day.

	Each team consisted of a adult or college leader, high school leaders and a junior high helper.	Leaders were provided with with a training manual with detailed lesson plans.
